Why Beach Cleaning Is Important21st of August, 2019
We have reached the end of our 2015/16 beach cleaning season. The reason it is important is that by the year 2050 there will be more weight of plastic in our seas and oceans that there will be weight of fish! We have to do something. This year we have hand-picked and removed 1,384 kgs of rubbish (predominantly plastic) from the shoreline of North Walney National Nature Reserve. Since the project started in August 2013, the partnership of Furness Waste Consortium, Natural England, Cumbria Wildlife Trust and Barrow Borough Council has contributed to a total of 5,041 kgs of litter being removed.
