Last Thursday, 3rd August, Steve Benn of Natural England and Ewan Scott of Furness College, took 30 BAE Higher Apprentices onto the North Walney NNR and during the course of the day 250kgs of litter and marine detritus was collected. We collected 136kg of litter on the day which is a great achievement. Over the summer some signage was added to the Gator, including logos of sponsors, including FWC. On the morning Monday 6th June, Furness College students commenced work on painting the shipping container that is used to garage the John Deere Gator and equipment for the beach cleaning campaign. North Walney National Nature Reserve Beach Cleaning Update

The Furness Waste Consortium are keen supporters of the local environment and continue to support the Furness area beach cleaning campaign. The campaign has now undertaken over 50 beach cleaning sessions since Aug 2013 and we have hand-picked over 4,000 kg of litter, flotsam, and jetsam.
