We collected 136kg of litter on the day which is a great achievement. Over the summer some signage was added to the Gator, including logos of sponsors, including FWC. The signage states what we are and where we are doing beach cleaning, so the public become even more aware of what we are doing. On Tuesday 21st June six Furness College painting and decorating students carried out further work on the shipping container. A first coat of specialist paint was applied to all surfaces and a second coat was applied to the areas that had received a first coat of paint on the 6th June. On the morning Monday 6th June, Furness College students commenced work on painting the shipping container that is used to garage the John Deere Gator and equipment for the beach cleaning campaign. The reason it is important is that by the year 2050 there will be more weight of plastic in our seas and oceans that there will be weight of fish! We have to do something. North Walney National Nature Reserve Beach Cleaning Update

The Furness Waste Consortium are keen supporters of the local environment and continue to support the Furness area beach cleaning campaign. The campaign has now undertaken over 50 beach cleaning sessions since Aug 2013 and we have hand-picked over 4,000 kg of litter, flotsam, and jetsam. Glaxo ends sending waste to landfill a year early

The site, which produces active pharmaceutical ingredients for antibiotics, sent 168 tonnes of waste to landfill in 2011 and had originally planned to end sending waste to landfill by 2014.
